Help Wanted!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to act as County Treasurer working with the Tennis Shropshire Team.

Tennis Shropshire is a registered charity and member of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). Our charitable objective is “the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation, for the benefit of individuals, by the provision of facilities for playing tennis”. The organisation is run entirely by volunteers, working closely with the LTA, tennis clubs, schools and other organisations across Shropshire, and with an annual income in excess of £60,000.

Our existing Treasurer who has performed excellently in this role for several years has decided it will shortly be time to step back. Although the appointment to the full role will not be immediate, we are looking to recruit now to give the new Treasurer a period to shadow the existing Treasurer and therefore enjoy an effective handover.

Ideally, we are looking for:

A qualified senior finance professional, however we will also consider applicants with equivalent experience.

Knowledge of SAGE systems would be advantageous but is not essential.

An interest in tennis is not essential however this, or a background in another sport, would be helpful in allowing the postholder to contribute fully to the running of the organisation.

The postholder will be expected to provide financial leadership to Tennis Shropshire, including liaison with the LTA on funding, managing the annual budget setting process, setting financial policies, ensuring that charitable reporting standards are met, monitoring, and reporting on expenditure against plan and liaising with potential sponsors.

The Treasurer fulfils a key role in the operation the charity and will be a member of the Committee of Trustees. A full induction to this aspect of the role will be given and development will be ongoing. The position is voluntary although there is a small honorarium and other benefits that will be outlined at interview.

If you would like to use your knowledge and experience to benefit tennis and the wider community in Shropshire we would like to talk to you.
