Oldbury Wells School win Sportsability School Games tennis event
Pupils from Bridgnorth’s Oldbury Wells School were the winners of a tennis tournament arranged as part of the Sportsability School Games.
Held at The Shrewsbury Club’s indoor courts and hosted by Tennis Shropshire in conjunction with Energize Shropshire, six Shropshire secondary schools took part.
Oldbury Wells overcame the challenge of teams representing Ercall Wood, Burton Borough, The Priory, Lacon Childe and Lakelands to be declared the winners following a series of round-robin matches.
Bob Kerr, the chairman of Tennis Shropshire, said: “It was a well supported tournament really enjoyed by the participating children.
“It was an opportunity for some pupils with learning difficulties to represent their schools, in some cases for the first time, in a sporting environment.
“Tennis coach Nikki Hoy visited the schools to run a series of taster sessions ahead of the event, which was a pilot scheme for tennis, and it proved to be very successful.”
