Shropshire’s over-65 ladies enjoy impressive victory over Dorset
Shropshire’s over-65 ladies side enjoyed their trip to Salisbury as they continue to perform well in the LTA’s Seniors’ Inter-County Championships.
The team, pictured, prepared for their clash with Dorset by spending the afternoon in Salisbury before enjoying supper in a country pub - while they also had lots of jelly babies to get them ready for match action.
Liz Boyle and Jane Williams, the first Shropshire couple to take to the court, won both rubbers convincingly.
The crucial third rubber went to a 10 point tie-break between the second couples, with Jane Brown and Celia Toogood maintaining their focus after being unfortunate not to convert two match points in the second set.
Their positivity at the start of the tie-break ensured an early 4-0 lead, which was sustained throughout to eventually win the tie-break 10-6.
The match was played in a good spirit and was rounded off with a post-match meal at a very picturesque pub.
The 3-1 win over Dorset followed on from an even more convincing 4-0 victory against Northumberland in a fixture played at the Shrewsbury Club.
The Shropshire team comprised Liz Boyle, Jane Williams, Gill Snodgrass and Jane Brown.
This team also played Norfolk at Norwich where this time Shropshire found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-1 scoreline, with Liz and Jane losing their first rubber in a 10 point tie-break.
The next match for Shropshire’s over-65 ladies side is against Leicestershire at The Shrewsbury Club on Tuesday, July 16 (1pm start), with all support welcome.
