It is with great sadness that I must inform you that Val Fisher passed away last week.
Val was well known to a lot of people across Shropshire and respected by everyone for all the work she put in to making wheelchair tennis popular across the county. Her enthusiasm was infectious with a lot of people taking up the sport as a result.
Whilst playing herself to a very good level, playing competitions all over the UK and in Europe, she will be especially remembered for her passion in introducing new people to wheelchair tennis. During her own tennis sessions that she attended, Val would think nothing of taking time out to spend time on court to support players who were new to the sport.
Val also played an important part in applying for grants to not only support the program but to also assist players in getting funding. As well as tennis, Val never lost her passion for horse riding and was involved in the Cavalier Centre that offers riding for the disabled, again thinking of others.
Val always had an extremely positive attitude and was generous in giving her time to others and whilst this is a sad loss to everyone Val has left a legacy that will live on with a lot of people.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family at this difficult time.
