Wheelchair Tennis National Finals taking place at The Shrewsbury Club this week

The LTA’s Wheelchair Tennis National Finals begin at The Shrewsbury Club today, with the prestigious event continuing until Sunday.

The Sundorne Road venue has hosted the finals a number of times in recent years, with a busy schedule of matches to be played on its indoor courts over the next four days.

This is the finale to the LTA’s National Series, which has seen tournaments held in England, Scotland and Wales throughout this year, including the Shrewsbury Wheelchair Tennis Competition in July.

Dave Courteen, The Shrewsbury Club’s managing director, said: “It’s a real honour to host this prestigious tournament and it’s a very important event on our calendar.

“We are looking forward to welcoming players from all over the UK to Shrewsbury and we hope everyone enjoys their time at The Shrewsbury Club.”

The Wheelchair Tennis National Finals includes both singles and doubles competitions, with Sam Eardley, Glen Leversedge and Craig Nicholson, all members of the Shropshire Wheelchair Tennis Group, featuring on the entry list of players for the tournament.

Tennis Shropshire chair Simon Jones added: "We always love supporting the wheelchair tennis tournaments at The Shrewsbury Club and the standard of tennis at the national finals is always very high.

"The Shrewsbury Club really has become a recognised venue for wheelchair tennis nationally.

"It’s a great event, which includes a dinner for players and officials on Saturday night, and the players really enjoy coming to Shrewsbury.”
