Try-outs for senior county teams

I am pleased to announce that we are once again running try outs for anyone interested in being considered for one of the senior county teams in 2024.

These will run on the afternoon of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th January in the Cathie Sabin Centre.

The ladies session will be run by Alison McDonald and the mens by Simon Bird and the sessions are open to anyone who was not a designated member of a team squad in 2023 and who is eligible to represent Shropshire.

There is no need for players who were already part of a squad in 2023 to put themselves forwards as team captains will already know their standard.

We want to have the strongest possible teams representing the county which is why we are now conducting these try outs each year, to make sure that we are aware of our strongest players in each age group.

Senior teams start from >40 (ladies) and >45 (men) and go up in 5 year increments to > 80s.

As a county we don't enter teams in every age group (I don't think any county does) - instead we make a decision based on previous years performance and player availability.

Therefore we would be interested to hear from anyone within this wide age range.

If you came along last year but didn't make it into a team it's still worth coming this year as player availability does change from year to year.

Each session will run for 2 hours and there will be a nominal charge of £5 as a contribution towards the cost of the session.

Exact timings will be confirmed once numbers are known.
