A tribute to Keith Wootton

Everyone connected with Tennis Shropshire is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Keith Wootton, who, for many years, did such a wonderful job as the groundsman at Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club.

Keith was a hugely popular figure at the club and made an outstanding contribution through his hard work and dedication, often in very challenging circumstances considering how close the club's beautiful grass courts are to the River Severn.

We extend our condolences to Keith's family and friends, and share here a lovely tribute to Keith, written by Jeremy Johnston, the chair of Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club.

RIP Keith...Thank you from all of us

So sad to report that our wonderful groundsman has lost his battle with cancer.

Keith Wootton was a really lovely man — quietly unassuming, yet his presence and dedication spoke volumes. His work at Shrewsbury Lawn was nothing short of exceptional. The care, pride, and love he poured into the grounds — especially the grass courts — is evident to all of us who enjoy playing at the club. His contribution has left a lasting legacy, and the club's current success stands as a living tribute to his skill, devotion, and character.

Keith just got on quietly with his work, but his impact was profound and his spirit lives on. He will be remembered not only for his craftsmanship, but for the warmth and humility he brought to all he did.

Thank you, Keith. We miss you.
