Shropshire tennis player Karen Sullivan proud to receive first England call up

Shropshire tennis player Karen Sullivan is looking forward to representing England for the first time at a prestigious international tournament in May.
Karen is proud to have been selected to play for the England ladies over-45s team at the Masters Senior Four Nations 2026, an LTA event which will take place in Glasgow between May 2-4.
The event at the city's Scotstoun Indoor Tennis Centre will feature both men's and ladies teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in over-35s, 45s and 50s age groups.
Karen, who has enjoyed playing representative county tennis for Shropshire, is a member of both Cound Tennis Club and David Lloyd Shrewsbury.
She has also regularly played in recent years in ITF World Tennis Masters tour events, a global tennis tour that provides players aged over 30 with high quality and enjoyable competitive experiences.
Karen, who lives in Prees, north Shropshire, was delighted to find out about her first call up to play for England.
“I got a text message saying I had been selected and asking if I was available to play,” said Karen, one of four players in her England age group team.
"I was pretty shocked, but I'm proud. It's amazing and I wasn't expecting it.
“I'm now doing extra gym work, some extra classes. I played at the venue where we're going to be playing in Glasgow in an ITF tournament last year, so I'm looking forward to the event.”
Karen has been playing tennis since her late 20s. She started to play in Warrington, her home town, and has continued to play regularly since moving to Shropshire 11 years ago.
Karen has enjoyed success in ITF World Tennis Masters tour events, having won singles titles at Liverpool and Felixstowe in 2024, before following it up with doubles titles at Sutton Coldfield and Liverpool last year.
